Admiral Sir William Sidney Smith, RN, directs Captain Prowse of HMS Pompeii to sail to the Bay of Policastro and there to report to Don Alessandro Mandarini, vice-president of Basilicata. He is also directed to prevent the enemy from occupying posts near the shore, to abstain from from helping or supplying local insurgents, and to sail north and cruise between Naples and the Procida Passage to prevent the enemy from sending a flotilla or convoys south.
